Speech Competition
A. Definition and Goals
An English speech contest is a competitive event where participants, elementary students, showcase their English language proficiency and public speaking skills by delivering English speeches on various proposed topics. The primary goals of the contest are multifaceted: to enhance participants’ English language skills, particularly in areas of speaking and listening; to boost their confidence in public speaking; to develop critical thinking and argumentation skills; and to foster cross-cultural understanding and communication. In addition, the contest aims at motivating learners to improve their English proficiency, prepare them for academic and professional settings requiring strong communication skills, and provide a supportive environment for constructive feedback and personal growth. By challenging participants to articulate their thoughts clearly and persuasively in English, the contest serves not only as a measure of language competency but also as a motivation for ongoing language learning and personal development.
