STORY TELLING COMPETITION
- Introduction
In line with technological advancements and the progression of time, this nation is required to continuously keep up with these developments to avoid being left behind by other countries. Past experiences undoubtedly play a significant role in shaping the character and identity of the nation, as there are many lessons to be learned that can serve as a foundation for becoming better modern individuals. Thus, the past acts as a primary teacher, offering lessons that help us move forward and progress.
Therefore, SMAS/K Yehonala is organizing a “Story Telling Competition” open to High School students across Batam. The competition focuses on Indonesian folklore that has been translated into English. This Story Telling Competition is held with the hope of drawing valuable lessons from our past to inspire new motivation in building a bright future.
B. Participant Regulations
- The competition is categorized for high and vocational school students.
- Participants must be official representatives of their respective schools, proven by a student ID card or a student verification letter.
- Each school may send a maximum of 2 participants.
- Participants must complete the competition registration form by Google Form (included with the submission of the participants’ story telling script for competition).
- A registration fee of Rp 75,000 per participant must be paid.
- The story script to be presented must be submitted to the committee no later than the Technical Meeting. The script should be typed in Word format (Font: Times New Roman, size 12, 1.5 spacing).
- Provide two photocopies of the script to be submitted to the judges.
- Costumes and props must align with the story being told.
- If a school wishes to replace a registered participant, the school must notify the committee before the Technical Meeting.
- If a registered participant fails to attend the competition, they will be disqualified, and the registration fee is non-refundable.
- Terms and Conditions
- After completing the registration process and meeting the requirements, participants enter the competition room.
- Each participant will draw their performance order number randomly from a box provided by the committee.
- Participants must present one Indonesian folklore story in English.
- The presentation must last a minimum of 8 minutes and a maximum of 10 minutes.
- If a participant exceeds the allotted time, they will receive a warning from the committee to stop their story immediately.
- Participants may begin their story only after receiving a signal from the timekeeper.
- Signals from the timekeeper:
- The timekeeper raises a green flag to indicate the start of the timer.
- The timekeeper raises a yellow flag when 5 minutes have passed.
- The timekeeper raises a red flag when the time reaches 10 minutes.
- The judges consists of two who will evaluate participants objectively.
D. Scoring Criteria
- Mastery of the story (including its moral message). (30%)
- Facial expressions and gestures. (20%)
- Costumes and props. (20%)
- Voice intonation. (20%)
- Story duration. (10%)
- Specific Regulations
- Participants must wear their respective school uniforms on the day of the competition.
- Participants are allowed to bring any props or costumes to support their story (if applicable).
- All participants must arrive 30 minutes before the competition starts and check their requirements with the assigned committee.
- Participants are expected to maintain the cleanliness of the competition venue.
- Avoid creating noise or disturbances during the competition.
- Exiting and re-entering the room is prohibited while the competition is in progress.
F. Additional Terms
- The terms and regulations are subject to change at any time based on the needs of the competition.
- The judges’ decisions are final and cannot be contested.
- Technical Meeting Guidelines (TM)
- Each registered participant must send a representative to attend the Technical Meeting (TM), which may be represented by a coach. The meeting details are as follows:

Platform : Zoom Meeting
- Ensure your computer, laptop, or phone is connected to the internet.
- Upon joining the Zoom meeting, update your account name as follows:
For Participants : Full Name_School Name
Example : Vina Priscilla_SMKS Yehonala
For Coaches : Full Name_School Name_Coach
Example : Johnson_SMKS Yehonala_Coach
- Participants and coaches must keep their microphones muted during the meeting but are required to keep their cameras on.
- To ask questions, please use the “raise hand” feature. After being acknowledged by the committee, you may unmute your microphone to speak.
- Participants and coaches must record their attendance via the provided Google Form.
- Please maintain order and discipline throughout the meeting.
- Participants who unavailable to attend the Technical Meeting without prior notice will be considered as having accepted all outcomes of the meeting without exception.
- Prizes
- 1st winner : Certificate + Rp 500.000
- 2nd winner : Certificate + Rp 400.000
- 3rd winner : Certificate + Rp 300.000
